Trail to a Cure raises $106K+ for HIV/AIDS Research/Services

The Ride/Walk/Run event in May is TTAC’s major fundraiser for the year, but it’s far from our ONLY one. This year, we had a bonus fundraiser at Logboat Brewing. It was a hot one, but fun, and it added some more cash to our cause. Thanks also to Smokin’ Chick’s for being there!

Because of this late fundraiser, though, we’re a bit later than usual in making the awards of funds to our beneficiary organizations.

This year, we were able to provide $12,100 to our 3 beneficiary organizations. This means that in our first nine years, we’ve raised $106,100 to fight HIV/AIDS!  Not bad for an all-volunteer, grassroots organization, if we do say so ourselves.

Thank you to our sponsors, event participants and volunteers! It doesn’t happen without you.

Checks will be on their way to these great organizations shortly!

Rain will receive a check to help individuals who are living with HIV/AIDS in Rain’s central Missouri service area with unmet emergency needs in the categories of food, utilities, housing, medical services, final arrangements, and more.

Bond Life Science Center’s HIV/AIDS researchers (and TTAC event participants): Stefan Sarafianos, Ph.D.; Marc Johnson, Ph.D.; Donald Burke-Aguero, Ph.D.

MU’s Bond Life Sciences Center‘s HIV/AIDS researchers will be receiving a check to help put more enthusiastic undergraduate students into the labs with Bond’s crack researchers, exposing undergrads to HIV/AIDS research as active researchers alongside nationally known virologists before they move on to graduate or medical school. TTAC funds extend the number of research hours, and may help lead to better treatments or even a cure while also introducing young scientists to this great work!

amfAR, the Foundation for AIDS Research, will also be receiving a check to help fund cutting-edge research at a national level.

TTAC Ride/Walk/Run 2017 planning is underway. Registration will be open very soon. Arment Enterprises has agreed to be our lead sponsor again next year!

Please plan to join us on the TRAIL TO A CURE–always the first Saturday in May!

Dine at Smokin’ Chick’s for the Cause – F2FA is On for 11/4!

Our friends Chick and Lissa have agreed once again to support Trail to a Cure through a Feast 2 FIGHT AIDS dining out fundraiser.

Mark your calendar for Wednesday, November 4 – all day. Smokin’ Chick’s is now located on W. Broadway (near HyVee and Shakespeare’s West).

3301 West Broadway – Business Park Court, Ste A – Columbia MO 65203
(573) 256-6450

Hours:  11-8

All you need to do is patronize Smokin’ Chick’s (dine in or carry out) and present them with the F2FA FLYER when you order/pay, and they’ll pass on 15% of what you spend to us to help in our efforts to fight HIV/AIDS.

Need a reminder? Need a menu?

You may have noticed that we decreased the frequency of F2FA events from monthly to about 6 a year to avoid fatiguing you, our lovely supporters. That means that the events we DO have are that much more important.

Smokin’ Chick’s has won awards in all kinds of BBQ contests, so you can trust us when we say the food is great! So grab some friends and take some flyers with you and enjoy some food and cold beverages!

Get a jump on the holiday leftover drudgery! Dine out with fabulous people!

The holiday season is upon us, and the chef in your family is cooking nonstop. Mark your calendars for several opportunities to lighten the load of said chef (and give everyone a break from the leftover parade) by eating out at one of CoMo’s locally owned and operated restaurants.

It’s a great time to take a friend out to eat for the holidays, grab some carry out/catering for your event, or pick up a gift/gift card from the restaurants.

Feast 2 Fight AIDS events are dining-out fundraisers. All you do is show up at the venue at the time of your choosing during normal business hours (with 10 of your closest friends in tow, we hope!), bring the F2FA Flyer for that month’s F2FA, and present it to the server/cashier when you pay. Then the nice restaurant owner sends Trail to a Cure a check for 15% of what you and your friends spend on food, libations, gift certificates! Easy peasy! And it’s for a nonprofit that has raised $52,000 towards the fight against HIV/AIDS in the last four years!

November’s F2FA is at Smokin’ Chick’s BBQ every Wednesday (there are 5 of them, so there are 3 more opportunities)! Here’s the flyer! Try the pulled pork, pictured above. Good eats are calling your name! And they have spice rubs and more for sale (stocking stuffer?). And it’s not everyplace that the folks whose name is on the marquee actually wait on customers. Chick and Lissa take good care of their patrons.

December’s is on a THURSDAY–it’s on December 1 (not Dec. 7, which would be our typical 1st Wednesday F2FA), which you know, of course, is World AIDS Day. F2FA is conveniently scheduled for La Siesta Mexican Restaurant downtown, so it makes a great complement to the WAD activities  going on in the downtown/Stephens area. Here’s the flyer! We’re looking forward to chiles en nogada, but there is a lot of great food (and Dos Equis on tap and MARGARITAS!) on the menu. “Los hermanos Guillen” and Paco and their crew will take care of you. Watch the city/county health department Facebook page for details about the Columbia World AIDS Day observance.

Shakespeare's Pizza--The Masterpiece

January’s is at Shakespeare’s (one of our favorite venues)! It’s on Wednesday, January 4th, 2012. Both locations (or all 3 if the new south location is open by then). Here’s the flyer! The masterpiece, pictured above, is tasty, but let us recommend whole wheat crust, artichoke hearts, and pepper cheese (plus any additions you might prefer). Kurt’s crew will make sure you enjoy a slice of great pie–or more!

Please do TTAC (and these locally owned/operated establishments) a favor and print a few extra flyers for each event and pass them out to friends or colleagues.

And you HAVE marked your calendar for TTAC’s 5th anniversary Ride/Walk/Run event? We have added a half-marathon option!

It’s on Cinco de Mayo–Saturday 5/5/2012! Really. Mark your calendars. You don’t want to miss it! Maybe we’ll even have a unicycle rider wearing a sombrero! Registration and fundraising are opening soon!

Do you think Paco would lend this sombrero to Dean, our expert unicyclist?

And if you’re not following us on Facebook, Google+, or Twitter what are you waiting for?

Thanks for reading and passing along to anyone you know in Central Missouri who might also like food. If you’re on our website reading this, there are some nifty little sharing widgets just below these words. Use them, please!

Thanks for reading!

Feast 2 FIGHT AIDS Update

We’re still working on finalizing October’s Feast 2 FIGHT AIDS venue, but go ahead and mark your calendar for November–EVERY Wednesday in November!

That’s right! Our friends at Smokin’ Chick’s Barbecue will be cooking up some of their trademark good eats for the cause.

Barbecue ImagesAll you have to do is bring in one of our F2FA Smokin’ Chicks’s Flyers for 2010 (PDF), and Chick and Lissa and company will donate 15% of what you spend to Trail to a Cure.

Why not support this locally owned small business while also helping cover the costs for Trail to a Cure’s annual Ride/Walk/Run in May–making sure all the proceeds from that event that are raised by participants go to the cause.

We will see you there!
