Trail to a Cure raises $106K+ for HIV/AIDS Research/Services

The Ride/Walk/Run event in May is TTAC’s major fundraiser for the year, but it’s far from our ONLY one. This year, we had a bonus fundraiser at Logboat Brewing. It was a hot one, but fun, and it added some more cash to our cause. Thanks also to Smokin’ Chick’s for being there!

Because of this late fundraiser, though, we’re a bit later than usual in making the awards of funds to our beneficiary organizations.

This year, we were able to provide $12,100 to our 3 beneficiary organizations. This means that in our first nine years, we’ve raised $106,100 to fight HIV/AIDS!  Not bad for an all-volunteer, grassroots organization, if we do say so ourselves.

Thank you to our sponsors, event participants and volunteers! It doesn’t happen without you.

Checks will be on their way to these great organizations shortly!

Rain will receive a check to help individuals who are living with HIV/AIDS in Rain’s central Missouri service area with unmet emergency needs in the categories of food, utilities, housing, medical services, final arrangements, and more.

Bond Life Science Center’s HIV/AIDS researchers (and TTAC event participants): Stefan Sarafianos, Ph.D.; Marc Johnson, Ph.D.; Donald Burke-Aguero, Ph.D.

MU’s Bond Life Sciences Center‘s HIV/AIDS researchers will be receiving a check to help put more enthusiastic undergraduate students into the labs with Bond’s crack researchers, exposing undergrads to HIV/AIDS research as active researchers alongside nationally known virologists before they move on to graduate or medical school. TTAC funds extend the number of research hours, and may help lead to better treatments or even a cure while also introducing young scientists to this great work!

amfAR, the Foundation for AIDS Research, will also be receiving a check to help fund cutting-edge research at a national level.

TTAC Ride/Walk/Run 2017 planning is underway. Registration will be open very soon. Arment Enterprises has agreed to be our lead sponsor again next year!

Please plan to join us on the TRAIL TO A CURE–always the first Saturday in May!

It’s Ride/Walk/Run Time!

In a few short days (Friday, to be precise), advance registration for the 2013 Trail to a Cure Ride/Walk/Run will be closed. Of course, you can still sign up at the event on Saturday (May the 4th), but it’s a tad pricier, and you don’t get entered into the prize drawing.

This year’s event is similar to last year’s except for a few details.

  1. Both running events are one hour earlier in the day.
  2. The post-event celebration will be right in Rocheport proper at Rocheport Bike and BBQ until 4 pm, followed by a sunset toast at Les Bourgeois A-Frame Wine Garden.
  3. We’ll have a new live band!
  4. We have wristbands and bib numbers this year.

We are selling wrist bands so that friends of participants can enjoy the food if they wish. Riders/Walkers/Runners get a wristband as part of the registration (and a cool t-shirt, some free ice cream, snacks along the trail, and much more). We kindly request that all participants wear the wristbands and bib numbers that we will have at registration/check-in.

We cannot process credit/debit cards, so please bring cash or a check to the trail.

Once again, we will be doing a drawing for a brand new bike. Tickets for that are $5 or 5 for twenty and can be purchased at the trail. You do not have to be present to win.

We are having the popular silent raffle as well, for which tickets are $1 and for which you do have to be present to win.

Leashed, friendly dogs, such as Truman here, are welcome on the trail, provided you provide sanitation services. Why?

Among the trailside booths this year will be Bond Life Sciences Center’s own Dr. Stephan Sarafianos, whose research is made possible, in part, by our fundraisers–that’s YOU! Be sure to stop by and visit to learn more about his team’s work and that of all the Bond LSC researchers at MU.

Thanks for reading, and please follow us on Facebook and Twitter to get the latest news!

See you on the trail, where we hope to raise a tidy sum to add to the $64,000 that we’ve already raised to fight HIV/AIDS–together!

PS: Please show your support to Trail to a Cure’s sponsors, and let them you know you appreciate it! We couldn’t do this event without them!

The Check’s in the Mail…Let’s Celebrate!

Thanks to all of the amazing event participants, volunteers, and sponsors of Trail to a Cure’s Ride/Walk/Run 2011, three deserving beneficiary organizations are receiving funding in keeping with Trail to a Cure’s mission.

Locally, Rain of Central Missouri is receiving funding to support services for those living with HIV/AIDS in Rain’s service area. These funds fill important gaps that grants and other programs do not meet.

Also local to Columbia, Trail to a Cure has provided some funding to help support the HIV/AIDS research work at Bond Life Sciences Center on the campus of the University of Missouri. (If you aren’t familiar, be sure to check out the great work of Drs. Donald Burke-Aguero, Marc Johnson, and Stefan Sarafianos.)

And at the national level, Trail to a Cure has provided support to amfAR, the Foundation for AIDS Research.

In only four years of existence, Trail to a Cure has raised $52,000 for its beneficiaries. That would not be possible without all of you, our event participants, fundraiser participants, business and individual sponsors and other partners. Thank you!

To celebrate, join TTAC folks at this month’s Feast 2 FIGHT AIDS at Broadway Brewery (July 6th). Be sure to bring the F2FA_Flyer!

And remember that next year’s event will be a big deal: it’s our fifth event and it’s on the first Saturday in May, which is Cinco de Mayo!
